Greg Brockman says OpenAI used its own AI to design chips with Broadcom, finding optimizations that human designers would've needed weeks to spot.
OpenAI has partnered with Broadcom to co-develop custom AI hardware, with 10GW of chips set to be deployed by 2029. In a statement, OpenAI said that the systems the duo are planning to develop will include AI accelerators and Ethernet solutions, with deployment targeted to start in the second half of 2026.
Today's climb in Broadcom shares is another example of the sustained popularity of the news-driven AI trade, which continues amid concerns about whether there's a bubble in the sector.
Shares of Broadcom ( AVGO 9.56%) surged higher on Monday, jumping as much as 10.6%. As of 12:38 p.m. ET, the stock was still up 10.2%. The catalyst that sent the networking specialist higher was word of a new partnership for its custom artificial intelligence (AI) chips.
