India's benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty traded on muted a note on Thursday, as losses in Tata Motors and IT stocks counterbalanced gains in other sectors. The auto index fell 1.2%, with Tata Motors down nearly 8.

BSE Sensex and Nifty50, the Indian equity benchmark indices, resumed their downtrend on Thursday. While BSE Sensex was below 76,500, Nifty50 was near 23,150.

Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Power Grid, L&T and NTPC were the top gainers on the Sensex. At the same time, Tata Motors, ICICI Bank, Infosys, Untratech Cement and ICICI Bank were the biggest losers

The S&P BSE Sensex was up by 33.36 points to 76,566.32, while the NSE Nifty50 gained 34.50 points to 23,197.60 as of 9:30 AM.

Highlights: The broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, with smallcap shares leading the charge as the Nifty Smallcap100 index settled higher by 3.32 per cent

Zomato, Tata Motors, Infosys, Ultratech Cement and Tech M were the top gainers on the Sensex. On the other hand, ITC Hotels, Bharti Airtel, Maruti Suzuki, Asian Paints, and ITC were the biggest losers

Among the steepest declines, the BSE Power Index tumbled over 30 percent from its recent peak, followed by the BSE Utilities Index and BSE India Infrastructure Index, which have fallen 28.7 percent and 27 percent,

Indian equity indices opened Monday’s trading session gap-down. The NSE Nifty 50 opened 171 points, or 0.74%, lower at 22,921.20, while the BSE Sensex fell 490.03 points, or 0.64%, to open at 75,700.43.

In the broader market, both the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices outperformed the benchmarks, rising 0.7 percent each.
