A Texas House panel on Saturday advanced a new congressional map as state Republicans power ahead with a strategy backed by President Donald Trump to hold on to the House majority in the 2026 midterms.

A Texas House panel on Saturday advanced a draft congressional map aimed at adding five new Republican districts next year over protests from Democrats that the proposal would suppress the votes of people of color.

The map headed to the full House for consideration, among other changes across the state, would push North Texas' Congressional District 33, held by Rep. Marc Veasey, a Fort Worth Democrat, fully into Dallas County. Currently, it falls in both Dallas and Tarrant counties.
