The violence followed days of back-and-forth between the Metropolitan Police Department and government officials as to whether to close the historic park.

Two people were stabbed at Dupont Circle Park during Pride festivities on Saturday and another was shot as the crowds dispersed, a D.C. police spokesperson said. All three victims were males, and police declined to specify their ages.

City authorities canceled an initial request to block off the site, an L.G.B.T.Q. gathering spot in Washington, D.C. But the National Park Service opted to close it.
