Those with late shifts and big bar tabs will soon have another hour to catch the train home some nights of the week. The MBTA announced Tuesday that it would start extending service on all subway lines “by about one hour” on Friday and Saturday nights starting Aug.

The MBTA will begin running subway trains and buses nearly an hour later into the night on certain days, returning to an idea that the agency has tried -- and canceled -- before.
