Tornado watches and warnings have been issued across major parts of central and southern Illinois, as well as counties south of Chicago. Find out where.

As of 1:35 p.m., much of Illinois is in a Tornado Watch, while a tornado warning is in effect for south Tazewell County. A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near San Jose at 1:35 p.m., or 10 miles northeast of Mason City, moving northeast at 15 mph.

A Tornado Watch is in effect, as is a Flood Watch, for large swaths of the Chicago area Wednesday. The possibility of stronger tornadoes is most likely from Ottawa to the Loop, especially on the South Side,

If you thought tornado season in the United States was on its last legs, think again. On Tuesday, the National Weather Service placed parts of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas on tornado watch. There was also a tornado warning issued for Colorado and Wyoming.

Chris Kimvle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in St. Louis, said they can look at pictures and videos to confirm a tornado, but if it’s not clear, they have to send someone out to survey damage and assess the track and strength of the tornado.

In a social media post on X, the weather agency said the tornado touched down east of Nicollet. It's unknown if any structures were damaged or if anyone was injured as a result of the tornado. Nicollet is around 80 miles southwest of Minneapolis.
