Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo’s office provided more clarity Friday on the role Nevada’s National Guard will play in assisting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a temporary partnership that is expected to begin in early September and last through Nov.

Spokesman says Guard is meeting with Homeland Security to work out “what it’ll look like and how we can assist at detention facilities in Nevada.”

National Guard troops have begun 24-hour operations around Washington, D.C., as of Thursday morning, according to a Department of Defense official. It's part of President Donald Trump's plan to address crime in Washington by taking over the city's police department and deploying the National Guard troops.
