PARAMUS ,N.J. — Northern New Jersey was rattled by a minor earthquake Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The magnitude 2.4 quake struck just after 1 p.m. local time and was centered just a mile outside of Paramus.

An earthquake was reported Friday near Paramus, New Jersey. Initial reports from the U.S. Geological Survey indicate a 2.4 magnitude quake hit shortly before 1:30 p.m. Glen Rock Police and the Bergen County Office of Emergency Management confirmed they are looking into reports of an earthquake.

Hundreds of people reported feeling some weak shaking to the USGS with some as far north as Poughkeepsie and even into some parts of Long Island.
