San Jose Police said they suspect that the man officers fatally shot on Sunday had killed his child and called 911 to get into a deadly confrontation with police.

The Sunday afternoon encounter marks the city’s second fatal police shooting in a week; the police auditor says his office was abruptly barred access to the shooting scene.

Police officers fired a barrage of bullets and killed a homicide suspect in a quiet, upscale neighborhood in San Jose, neighbors and law enforcement officials said. The San Jose Police Department officers' shooting happened on Sunday afternoon near Cataldi Park on the north side of the city.
