Wes Ball directs Sony's feature adaptation of the popular Nintendo video game franchise initially set for a March 26, 2027 theatrical rollout.
The videogame, created by the Japanese game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka, launched in 1986. It follows the elf-like warrior Link and elegant Princess Zelda as they fight to save the magical land of Hyrule from Ganon, an evil warlord-turned-demon king.
The hardware improvements in the new $450 Nintendo will make this an automatic upgrade for fans of the two-in-one console.
For clarity: the Switch 2 isn't 'just a big Switch'. This is a whole new system, with exclusive games – although only one key title at launch, in Mario Kart World. Unless you count Welcome Tour (a 'must', according to my colleague).
Sony Pictures may also feel a bit more confident about a May 2027 release, now that Avengers: Secret Wars has been moved from May 27, 2027 to Dec. 17, 2027. That certainly gives Nintendo and Sony a lot more breathing room to give The Legend of Zelda the attention it needs.
