CLEVELAND — President Donald Trump is calling for the restoration of the Cleveland Guardians’ former name. He wrote in a social media post on Truth Social on Sunday. Trump called on both the owners of the Washington Commanders and Cleveland Guardians to change their names.

President Trump said he may move to block the Washington Commanders new stadium as he called on the NFL team and also MLB's Cleveland Guardians to restore their old names. The big picture: The Commanders changed their name from the Washington Redskins and the Guardians from the Cleveland Indians in the wake of an anti-racism movement that swept the U.

For four seasons now, Cleveland’s Major League Baseball team has been playing with the moniker 'Guardians.' The franchise formally transitioned to its new name after the 2021 season, completing a process initiated with an announcement in December 2020.
