Officials are investigating after someone splattered the front gates of the State House with white paint overnight.

State Police are investigating vandalism to the State House steps that occurred early Wednesday. A suspicious package, potentially left by the vandal, was later found on Boston Common, and the bomb squad was called in, according to State Police.
