Nearly 3,000 firefighting personnel are attacking the blaze that's burning primarily in rural areas of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. The fire is 15% contained as of Thursday morning.

The Gifford Fire, a wildfire burning in Central California that has destroyed over 83,000 acres in six days, continues to rage and is now the largest blaze in the state this year, according to Cal Fire.

The blaze erupted Tuesday and tore through the Aude region, spreading rapidly due to hot, dry weather. Cooler overnight temperatures and calmer winds slowed its advance and allowed firefighters to make headway.

France's largest wildfire for 75 years, which has burned through an area larger than Paris, has slowed overnight but is not yet under control, officials have said. More than 2,000 firefighters and 500 firefighting vehicles continue to be deployed to the Aude region, alongside gendarmerie and army personnel, officials said on Thursday.

The Canyon Fire was initially reported at about 30 acres but had rapidly grown to 1,050 acres in a few hours on Thursday, officials said.

The Canyon fire along the Ventura-Los Angeles county line quickly grew to over 1,000 acres Thursday afternoon, triggering evacuations in and around Piru and Castaic.

An evacuation order has been issued for all of Lake Piru Recreation Area and east to the Los Angeles County line, south to SR 126, west to Center Street.
