A deadly winter storm may be winding down for some, but extremely cold weather will persist. Here are the latest updates on power outages and forecasts.

The forecasts had predicted that the storm could be among the worst in a generation to hit the region. By Monday, it was clear that is exactly what happened.

The Louisiana Department of Public Health announced on Sunday that at least two people in the state had died from hypothermia in the ongoing winter storm. Two men died in Caddo Parish, according to the agency. In the Midwest, snow totals hit 14 inches in Indiana and Illinois.

People in 14 states have died as a result of the weekend winter storm that brought, snow, ice and treacherous conditions.

The storm deaths were reported in New York, Tennessee, Louisiana, Kansas, Texas, Massachusetts, Arkansas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Kentucky and New Jersey, and other deaths were under investigation.

Experts say the massive winter storm hitting the American East is taking a multi-billion dollar toll on the U.S. economy. But exactly how much is hard to quantify.

On his own Twitter account, Cantore predicted 10 to 18 inches in NYC with regards to the pending storm. That range would double or triple the amount of snow that's already fallen in NYC to date this winter. According to National Weather Service data, 9.7 inches of snow was recorded to date this winter in New York's Central Park.

The entire Houston region faces a hard freeze Monday morning after seeing a warmer start to Sunday than expected.

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves confirmed via a social media statement Monday, Jan. 26, that the winter storm caused the two deaths. Reeves also stated two injuries have been reported, one in Hinds County and another in Smith County. Both injuries were due to the storm, the governor stated.
