But hold on, the Chiefs and Royals stadium funding plot thickens. Neighboring Kansas hasn’t exactly bowed out, offering an even j uicier deal that could fund up to 70 percent of stadium costs.

The Chiefs and Royals will now have until June 30, 2026, to make a deal. But while that is the legal deadline, at least some lawmakers want the teams to make a decision by Dec. 31, 2025.

The Chiefs have requested an extension to the end-of-June deadline for a stadium financing package from the state of Kansas in a letter to the Kansas Senate president.

In June, Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe signed off on legislation that would authorize bonds to pay for up to 50 percent of the cost for the Chiefs and Royals to build or renovate a stadium.
