The Jets severed their last tie to the ill-fated Aaron Rodgers era by releasing receiver Allen Lazard after three seasons with the team, a source confirmed to ESPN.
The Jets also announced that they have signed linebacker Ochaun Mathis to the practice squad and released quarterback Adrian Martinez from that roster. Martinez backed up Brady Cook in Sunday’s loss to the Jaguars and his departure could signal that Tyrod Taylor and/or Justin Fields will be healthy enough to suit up this week.
Rodgers, who the Jets brought over in 2023, influenced a few of his favorite Packers receivers (Lazard, Randall Cobb, Davante Adams) to make the trek with him during the two seasons he spent in New York. Cobb retired after ‘23, while Adams went to the Rams this season, leaving just Lazard there this season.
Lazard, 30, has 10 catches for 70 yards and one touchdown in 10 games (two starts) this season. The 6-foot-5, 227-pound widrout joined the Jets shortly after the arrival of former Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers.
