The New York Yankees have been slow to make big moves so far this offseason, but they may be more willing to spend big than they initially let on.
Aaron Judge and Carlos Rodon are determined to lead the Yankees back to the World Series to avenge their 2024 loss to the Dodgers. Their ultimate goal is to finally end the franchise’s championship drought that has lasted since 2009, cementing their legacies in New York with a 28th title.
That trend continued on Wednesday. According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees granted the release of right-hander Allan Winans, who plans to continue his career overseas in Japan. “The Yankees have given release waivers to pitcher Allan Winans to seek an opportunity to play in Japan, a source told The Post,” Sherman reported on X.
The New York Yankees and New York Mets could get into a bidding war for star outfielder Cody Bellinger this winter.
The Yankees' current shortstop options are Anthony Volpe (controversial and unavailable in the spring, but expected to reappear later in the season), Jose Caballero and Oswaldo Cabrera. The latter two are expected to test their talents this winter, and the Yankees have showed no signs publicly that they are dying to replace their shortstops.
