A massive project to rebuild a portion of the Interstate 5 Bridge was put on hold Thursday out of concerns that evacuees from Oregon wildfires would overwhelm the region’s freeway system.

Separate multi-alarm fires were reported west of Interstate 5 near Jefferson on Thursday afternoon, snarling freeway traffic and sending fire crews from around the area to assist.

ALBANY, Ore. (KPTV) - Firefighters battled a large fire at a hay barn near Albany early Monday morning. Just before 3 a.m., crews responded to the hay barn fire off Century Drive, near Interstate 5.

A wildfire near Milepost 98 on Interstate 5 near Canyonville in southern Oregon brought level 3 evacuations to the surrounding area. The fire was estimated at 206 acres as of Saturday morning.

The causes of the fires are under investigation by the Oregon State Fire Marshal. Several grass fires left blackened swaths of fields along Wintel Road S near Jefferson and Interstate 5.
