With Ryan in place, Falcons begin coach search by interviewing Dolphins’ Weaver and Seahawks’ Kubiak
The Atlanta Falcons have interviewed Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver for their head coach vacancy.
The Atlanta Falcons made a splashy front-office move by hiring franchise icon Matt Ryan as president of football operations — and Seahawks fans may want to pay attention. Seattle blogger Brian Nemhauser believes Ryan’s arrival could “greatly” increase the odds Atlanta targets Seattle’s offensive play-caller as its next head coach.
The Falcons have requested an interview with Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. League rules require that the interview take place by the end of the wild card round, giving Atlanta until Monday to complete their first formal meeting with Durde.
In addition to Minter and Hafley, the Falcons have interviewed former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, former Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde, Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, and Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
If the right head coaching job does not line up for Mike McDaniel, he could decide to choose from one of the many attractive offensive coordinator openings around the NFL. That’s what brought the former Dolphins head coach to interview with the Bucs on Friday.
NFL teams with an opening are making time to meet with Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. Following his interview with the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday, Hafley is scheduled to be the first candidate to meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday.
