After "extensive efforts," human remains found near the Alpine Visitor Center in Rocky Mountain National Park in June have been positively identified.

Officials on Monday released the identity of human remains discovered near the Alpine Ridge Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park last month.

The Alpine Ridge is a hiking trail at the park. It is only 0.6 miles in distance round trip, but has an elevation gain of 162 feet, according to the National Park Service.

Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous paved road in the United States - reaching 12,183 feet in elevation. Park plow operators normally encounter drifts from 18 to 22 feet, officials said.
