President Donald Trump has threatened to impose “large scale” financial penalties on California after a transgender athlete competed and won two medals at last weekend’s high school state track and field championship.

The president posted Monday on social media that Gov. Gavin Newsom “fully understands, large scale fines will be imposed” following AB Hernandez’s participation in three events.

The Jurupa Valley High junior finishes with the top marks in the high jump and triple jump, resulting in multiple winners due to a CIF rule change.
