A Michigan man followed a "whim" and used some of his $300 in lottery winnings to buy another Fast Play ticket -- scoring a $714,891 progressive jackpot prize.
Ruggiero won $435,915 after stopping at a Harris Teeter grocery store in Greensboro. While there, he tried his luck on the Carolina Cash 5 game, lottery officials wrote in an Aug. 20 news release. It turns out, the man’s $1 ticket held a big surprise. It beat 1-in-962,598 odds to match all the numbers picked in the Aug. 13 drawing.
The lucky ticket was sold at a Publix grocery store on Curry Ford Road in Orlando. The player opted for Quick Pick, meaning a lottery machine randomly chose at least some of their ticket numbers, the Florida Lottery wrote on its website and in a news release.
The visitor sat at a Dragon Link slot machine at the Aliante Hotel Casino Spa in North Las Vegas, the casino said in an Aug. 19 Facebook post. The gambler bet $7.50, hit spin and watched as the symbols flashed across the screen. Then a jackpot message appeared saying the player won $18,221.19 from the popular game.
After there was no winner in Wednesday night’s drawing, Powerball’s jackpot has climbed to an estimated $700 million.
A lucky gambler walked away from a Connecticut casino with a big jackpot prize. The visitor sat at a Monopoly Cash Wheel slot machine at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, the casino said in an Aug. 17 Facebook post. The player bet $5, hit spin and watched as the symbols flashed across the screen until a jackpot message appeared.
After betting less than a dollar, a Massachusetts casino player walked away with thousands in winnings. On Aug. 3, a woman bet 75 cents on the game “Ultimate Fire Link-Cash Falls” at Encore Boston Harbor.
