Unanswered questions remain about a young Texas girl’s death by suicide earlier this month after her school district released findings from a bullying investigation Wednesday.

The child's school district presented disturbing new claims, citing interviews with fellow students, following an internal investigation into racist bullying.

Jocelynn Carranza's mother said she died by suicide after being repeatedly bullied by classmates over her immigration status. Her schoolmates, however, told officials that she had been sexually abused by a family member.

The 11-year-old talked to her principal about a student on the school bus who had made “remarks regarding ICE and deportation to a group of Hispanic students,” the report states.

The 11-year-old Texas girl who died by suicide was bullied and told others she was touched “inappropriately,” according to an investigation conducted by Gainesville school officials. Jocelynn Rojo Carranza died on Feb.

In February 2025, social media users claimed an 11-year-old girl in Texas took her own life after bullies at her school threatened to report her family to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to get them deported. One Instagram user posted a photo allegedly showing the girl ( archived ), with text beneath the picture reading:

Little Jocelyn was remembered as a sweet and joyful girl who played the French horn, was an avid swimmer, and loved getting manicures with her beloved grandmother.

The family of a Texas girl who died by suicide is demanding accountability from her school district, saying the 11-year-old was bullied by classmates who threatened to call immigration agents on her parents. A vigil for Jocelynn Rojo Carranza is planned for 5 p.m. on Saturday in Gainesville.
