The Nashville office of the National Weather Service upgraded the winter storm watch to a warning ahead of expected snow and ice this weekend.

There's more than a 50% chance Nashville will be significantly impacted by ice, making travel extremely dangerous.
“Dangerous cold comes this week with several nights featuring single digit temperatures and wind chills below zero,” the National Weather Service said early Monday. “It’s quite rare to get a stretch of temperatures this cold for so long. Take precautions if headed out.”

AL faces weather whiplash today as rain, storms and gusty winds give way to dangerous cold statewide, with icy roads north and extreme cold south.
“It will be after 7 or 8 p.m. when things start to trend over to frozen precipitation, and definitely after midnight is when it should be solidly freezing rain,” National Weather Service meteorologist Ryan Willis said Saturday from his office in Peachtree City.
