Netflix no longer supports casting shows from a mobile device to most TVs and streaming devices, regardless of the plan you're on.
The Google Cast system began appearing in apps shortly after the original Chromecast launched in 2013. Since then, Netflix users have been able to start video streams on TVs and streaming boxes from the mobile app. That was vital for streaming targets without their own remote or on-screen interface, but times change.
Casting is now limited to older TVs and streaming devices, with access also being limited to users with ad-free subscriptions.
This comes roughly three years after Netflix introduced its ad-supported tier, which doesn’t work with Google Cast, and in turn Chromecast-only devices like a classic Chromecast, at all. Instead, Netflix requires subscribers to pay for a premium tier to use those devices, with those plans starting at $17.99/month.
Do you cast Netflix movies or TV shows from your phone to the TV using the Chromecast? If you have a newer Google streamer, it no longer works.
You should still be able to cast from your phone or tablet to older Chromecast or Google Cast devices if you're on an ad-free plan.
