Sir Keir Starmer’s efforts to rally an international crackdown on Elon Musk’s social media platform X have suffered a blow after Canada publicly backed away from an outright ban.
The UK government announced new legislation criminalising the creation of non-consensual AI-generated intimate images, just days after Elon Musk posted AI-generated images of Prime Minister Keir Starmer on X.
The UK will bring into force a law which will make it illegal to create non-consensual intimate images, following widespread concerns over Elon Musk's Grok AI chatbot. The Technology Secretary Liz Kendall said the law would make it illegal for companies to supply the tools designed to create such images.
The UK government has hit out at Elon Musk regarding changes to X's Grok AI tool, which allows users to alter images. Many social media users have been using the free AI assistant to digitally undress people, put them in bikinis, or in sexual situations.
Science secretary says the deepfake content being produced on the platform is ‘unacceptable in decent society’
