House Republicans have unveiled the cost-saving centerpiece of President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill.”

Lawmakers bickered, protesters shouted and senators came to take in the moment as a House committee weighed a critical portion of a bill to enact President Trump’s domestic agenda.

And as is typical with grisly compromises, neither side is necessarily happy with the product.

House committees have been laboring for months to draft the legislation, which Republicans have labeled “THE ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,’’ a nod to Trump himself. Speaker Mike Johnson is pushing to approve the package and send it to the Senate by Memorial Day.

Democrats in the North Carolina Legislature complained Tuesday that the Republican majority killed good bills without even considering them in the respective rules committees of the Senate and House of Representatives.

As Congressional committee hearings begin in Washington, New Jersey officials predict 700,000 could lose health care.

Central to the savings are changes to Medicaid, which provides almost free health care to more than 70 million Americans, and the Affordable Care Act,
