J.J. McCarthy and the Vikings visit Jaxson Dart and the skidding Giants in latest young QB showcase
The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants are eliminated from playoff contention but see their Week 16 matchup as plenty meaningful with another chance for a young quarterback to play.
While there are three games left in the regular season, the Giants have more incentive to lose than to win, as they are currently slated to get the No. 1 pick in the draft. However, FS1's Colin Cowherd recently revealed that he thinks their best usage for that pick is to trade Dart away, and draft his replacement.
The New York Giants got a scare in the fourth quarter when Jaxson Dart exited the game after taking a hit from two Washington Commanders defenders. Dart was able to return a few plays later, but it prompted more questions about how the Giants and interim coach Mike Kafka are protecting their franchise quarterback.
The Giants have not played since losing 33-15 at New England on Dec. 1, though their late bye week gave quarterback Dart a chance to reset and interim coach Mike Kafka an opportunity to evaluate a team he took over on Nov. 10 after the team fired Brian Daboll.
After a pair of benchings in recent weeks, New York Giants rookie Abdul Carter recommitted himself and responded with a "statement" game in Week 15.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt ran for a touchdown, fellow rookie Jaylin Lane returned a punt 63 yards to the end zone and the Washington Commanders ended their season-derailing skid at eight games by beating the similarly woeful New York Giants 29-21.
