By Wayne Cole SYDNEY (Reuters) -Asian shares made fractional gains on Monday while the dollar dithered as confusion over U.S. trade policy showed little sign of easing, in a week packed with major economic data and mega-tech earnings.

The U.S. Dollar dropped on Monday as traders tried to digest the persistent uncertainties in trade talks between Washington and Beijing.  The greenback was last down 0.25% to $99.45 as comments from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent added to doubts regarding U.

Gold prices fell 2% on Friday and were on track for a weekly dip as the dollar rose and signs of easing U.S.-China trade tensions after a report that Beijing had exempted some U.S. goods from its tariffs weighed on bullion.

Bitcoin bulls have long been frustrated to see the crypto trade in a fashion similar to stocks and other assets perceived as risky, rather than as a store of value such as gold. Now, some think they see tentative signs of a shift.

World stocks and the dollar nudged up on Tuesday after U.S. President Donald Trump's administration said it planned to reduce the impact of auto tariffs, a further sign of flexibility on a trade policy that has wreaked havoc on markets in April.

Stocks ticked sideways on Tuesday while the dollar headed towards its largest monthly fall for years as investors braced for the trade war to be felt in earnings and economic data. U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs have rattled faith in U.

The dollar recouped some of its losses on Tuesday, supported by reports that the U.S. administration may ease planned tariffs, although investor caution lingered over whether a meaningful de-escalation in the U.

Beijing appears to be bedding in for a protracted battle with the US over tariffs. The Chinese government laid out policies Monday to aid its exporters affected by the trade war, including loan support for troubled firms and measures to further boost domestic consumption.

China on Monday said it was on the right side of history in its gruelling trade war with the United States. Recall that the US President Donald Trump, since returning to the presidency in January, has imposed 10 per cent tariffs on most US trading partners and a separate 145 per cent levy on many products from China.
