SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A federal judge in San Francisco will consider evidence and hear arguments on whether the Trump administration violated federal law when it deployed National Guard soldiers and U.S. Marines to Los Angeles following protests over immigration raids this summer.

Trump said he was invoking section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, which gives the President of the United States the authority to commandeer DC's Police Department in “conditions of an emergency nature.” Attorney General Pam Bondi is now in charge of the Metropolitan Police Department, he said.

President Donald Trump ordered 800 National Guard troops into the district to "help reestablish law, order, and public safety in Washington, D.C.”
