For the third time in two weeks, Newark Liberty International Airport air traffic controllers overseeing the busy New Jersey airport were temporarily unable to contact pilots.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says he plans to reduce the number of flights in and out of Newark's airport for the “next several weeks” as it struggles with radar outages and other issues, including another Sunday that again slowed air traffic.

Newark has been facing disruptions for around two weeks amid a national air traffic controller shortage, leading to delays of up to five hours for some flights. As a result, some students flying home for the summer have changed their flights.
