Franco Colapinto has been slapped with a grid penalty – despite crashing out of qualifying for the F1 Imola Grand Prix. The Argentine was penalised for breaking protocol after Yuki Tsunoda ’s high-speed crash.

Colapinto is the second driver to crash during Q1 at Imola after Red Bull's Yuki Tsunoda was sent to the medical center for precautionary checks following a horrific crash which saw his RB21 flip. Gabriel Bortoleto, Liam Lawson, Nico Hulkenberg, Esteban Ocon, and Yuki Tsunoda were eliminated in Q1.

Franco Colapinto’s much-anticipated return to Formula 1 didn’t go as planned. In his first qualifying session of the season, the Argentine driver, now with Alpine, suffered a terrifying crash during the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola —an accident so violent it left fans and teams holding their breath.
