US President Donald Trump on Tuesday once again claimed that his administration "successfully brokered a historic ceasefire" to stop the escalating violence between India and Pakistan. "As I said in my inaugural address,

The US-brokered ceasefire agreement will not go anywhere near addressing the fundamental grievances fueling the decades-long dispute over the status of Muslim-majority Kashmir.

Trump extended an offer to “work with you both to see if, after a “thousand years” the Kashmir could be resolved.

The military operations chiefs of India and Pakistan will discuss on Monday the next steps for the nuclear-armed neighbours after a ceasefire returns calm to the border, following their fiercest fighting in nearly three decades.

A ceasefire agreed between India and Pakistan appears to be holding, with both sides stressing their commitment to the surprise truce which halted the worst fighting in decades between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
