During a recent meeting of governors at the White House, Maine Gov. Janet Mills and President Donald Trump clashed over Trump’s executive order banning transgender athletes from women’s sports. Still, Mills did not say Maine would stop paying federal taxes if Trump stopped federal funding.

"'If Donald Trump stops federal funding to Maine, we the people of Maine will take out federal taxes from all paychecks and no taxes will be paid to the federal government.' – Maine Governor Janet Mills," the post reads. The post was shared more than 1,400 times in three days.

The state’s first female governor and first female district attorney, the longtime Democratic politician has a history of supporting law enforcement.
