Romania's prime minister has announced his resignation, a day after the governing coalition’s joint candidate failed to advance to the runoff in the rerun of the presidential election.

Romania's Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced his resignation after George Simion won the first round of the presidential election.

The scandal that broke out between the members of the governing coalition after Crin Antonescu did not receive the number of votes needed to enter the final of the presidential elections was also felt at the meetings that the liberal and social-democratic leaders had within the political formations to which they belong.
