The Trump administration is overhauling the National Security Council after it announced former National Security Advisor Mike Waltz would depart his post overseeing the agency.

National security adviser Mike Waltz is leaving his White House post, although soon after reports about his departure were published, President Trump announced he plans to nominate him to be ambassador to the United Nations.

Staffers who dealt with a wide range of geopolitical issues received termination notices as part of an NSC restructuring, which is expected to grant more authority to the State and Defense departments.
