The two children were identified as Charlotte Trotter, 4, and Sebastian Trotter, 7, according to their aunt Tiffanie Wyatt. A Flash Flood Warning was issued Thursday afternoon for the village of Ruidoso and surrounding areas after heavy rainfall from monsoonal thunderstorms triggered flooding and water rescues around burn scar areas.

FEMA announced on Wednesday morning that federal disaster assistance is now available to New Mexico to help with recovery efforts from the severe storms on July 5. The “Major Disaster Declaration” was approved by President Trump.

Dona Ana County Commissioners are meeting this afternoon to discuss a resolution to approve an Emergency Disaster Declaration after the Vado flooding. The small rural community flooded earlier this week when rain waters overwhelmed hundreds of homes.
