A coalition of 22 Democratic-led states and the District of Columbia is seeking to halt the Trump administration from defunding Planned Parenthood, following a provision in President Donald Trump’s domestic agenda package.

On Thursday, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte announced on social media that it will close five clinics in Northern California after recent federal budget cuts eliminated Medicaid reimbursements for clinics that perform abortions.

LA County lawmakers and health care advocates said they are “sounding the alarm” about efforts to end Medicaid reimbursements to abortion providers.

Darren Beattie, who was fired as a speechwriter during President Donald Trump’s first term after CNN revealed that he spoke at a conference attended by White nationalists, will now serve as the acting president of the US Institute of Peace, a senior State Department official said.

The lawsuit in Missouri state court accuses Planned Parenthood of violating a state law banning deceptive business practices. The state is seeking millions of dollars in penalties, including up to $1,000 for each woman in Missouri who has been provided abortion pills by Planned Parenthood over the last five years.

A judge issued a preliminary injunction that allowed only some of the group’s health centers to receive payments for services like birth control and checkups.
