Feb 26, 2024 · The Switch 2 HW is based off Tegra Orin (announced in 2018, sampled in 2021, launched in 2022). The Switch will use a more custom chip but like Orin it will have a variant of the ARM Cortex A78 Hercules CPU which originally launched in 2020 and a mobile variant of the Nvidia Ampere GPU series (originally launched in 2020).

I don’t think people need to worry that much about Switch 2
The rumored performance of the Switch 2 is certainly not "cutting corners". Obviously we're not getting PS5-level performance in a handheld anytime soon, and the rumored Switch 2 performance is about the best we could possibly hope for in an affordable mass-market device with decent battery life and ergonomics.

If Switch 2 is announced now that will kinda hang everything releasing between now and the new hardware launch as a lame duck launch. There's no reason for them to hurt potential sales for Mario vs Donkey Kong, Princess Peach, Paper Mario 2, Splatoon 3 Side Order by announcing hardware early.

Switch 2 will have higher frame rate and better resolution. After a year they will phase out the original, and only make games for Switch 2 but it will garner attention from indies which will support both platforms. Unless they keep backwards compatibility then they will likely go ALL in on Switch 2 because they will want people to upgrade.

Absolutely this. If there's any gimmick, make it a more robust online experience where we can get more third party games, even if they are older. If I could play RDR2, Ghosts of Tsushima, Cyberpunk, and Fallout 4 on my Switch 2, I'll be very, very, very happy. I knew there would be great Mario, Zelda, and other Nintendo house titles on the Switch.
