The Switch will use a more custom chip but like Orin it will have a variant of the ARM Cortex A78 Hercules CPU which originally launched in 2020 and a mobile variant of the Nvidia Ampere GPU series (originally launched in 2020).

The rumored performance of the Switch 2 is certainly not "cutting corners". Obviously we're not getting PS5-level performance in a handheld anytime soon, and the rumored Switch 2 performance is about the best we could possibly hope for in an affordable mass-market device with decent battery life and ergonomics.

If Switch 2 is announced now that will kinda hang everything releasing between now and the new hardware launch as a lame duck launch. There's no reason for them to hurt potential sales for Mario vs Donkey Kong, Princess Peach, Paper Mario 2, Splatoon 3 Side Order by announcing hardware early.

Switch 2 will have higher frame rate and better resolution. After a year they will phase out the original, and only make games for Switch 2 but it will garner attention from indies which will support both platforms. The Switch was out for four years before the OLED launched. That's not to say that Nintendo definitely won't take a hint from Sony and Microsoft and create a two-tier console family for Switch 2; it's an easy way to wrangle more money out of the diehards.

The days of console makers trying their hands at weird architecture are over. PS4, PS5, Xbox One ,Xbox Series all x86/x64 architecture. Nobody has time, money or stupid enough to build another CELL. Unless the Switch 2 is NOT a switch but a traditional console like PS and Xbox, yes, there could be change of architecture.
