Nov 14, 2024 · Just to see if the problem could be duplicated with a different barrel, I temporarily replaced the Colt HBAR barrel with a DTI HBAR same 1-9". Group issues happened same way: Tight, large, then tight etc. Removed barrel and lapped upper receiver. Reinstalled Original Colt HBAR barrel. Shot multiple 10rnd groups that are now tight and consistent.

Feb 16, 2017 · I bought a Colt HBAR in '91 thinking I would love it. It's muzzle heavy and a poorly balanced gun. Shoots great but is akward as hell. Last spring I built a flat top with a Govt profile barrrl and it's a very accurate, balance rifle. It's become my favorite. Govt profile for all around, general use. HBAR if you have a specific need it satisfies.

Dec 20, 2004 · The HBAR is cheaper for the manufacturer as they don't have the same amount of labor/time/tooling invested as they would to produce for example, a Gov't profile barrel. The barrel blanks all start out the same so in theory should all cost the same but time on the lathe would equal less productivity and increased tooling costs and labor costs ...

Sep 14, 2005 · I used to have a HBAR but sold it. There was not much difference in accuracy with my other 20" Gov't profiled rifle. The HBAR's balance and weight is better for target shooting like in CMP competition. I'm going to get another HBAR later on but with a good quality match barrel and FF handguards.

Aug 9, 2009 · The Match Target Match HBAR model MT6601 and MT6601C with fixed carry handle (the "C" after the model number means compensator, not the "C" in the serial number prefix) should have a serial number prefix letters of CMH like in my rifle.

Jun 27, 2008 · TRY an HBar standing. The muzzle heaviness is tiresome, and it makes the AR loose it balance and handiness. Actually hold a sight picture and squeeze off a dry snap. The HBar is just too damn heavy for most purposes save for Service Rifle. My first AR was an HBar, and it was also a huge disappointment. Moon

Oct 23, 2004 · Many authors hear "it uses a heavier barrel" and report "it uses a Heavy Barrel" or "it uses the HBAR barrel", despite that being totally wrong. The only HBAR-profile AR-based rifles being issued are SpecOps's 11.5" uppers, and there aren't very many of those. Exceptions also for personally-owned uppers, which of course could be anything.-Troy

Jan 12, 2019 · Several months ago, I picked up a nice Colt HBAR sporter. The serial number shows it to be a 'pre-ban' according to my research, if that matters. I recently installed a proper A2 barrel, that I got from Shark Arms, because I wanted the rifle to be in a more mil-spec configuration (proper weight, bayonet lug).
