Straightening the cross slide gib off the American Pacemaker using techniques I learned from the scraping and machine rebuilding courses I took. Using our Starrett granite surface plate, start by hinging the gib then use feeler gages or shim stock to determine the approximate bow in the gib. It’s obvious from my first post about this gib that folks aren’t understanding what I’m doing. The shim I’m making will be glued onto the static (non-moving) side of the gib. This is to add some thickess to the gib and get the adjustment screw back into the range where the gib can be properly adjusted to eliminate backlash (side to side movement). This is a very small amount of material that’s needed to repair this and the plastic .010” shim will correct this. The shim will not be in contact wit
