This is a platform mound of the Hohokam people now called Pueblo Grande at 44th St. and Washington in 1928. Phoenix hired the first city Archeologist in the country to carefully excavate the thousand-year-old ruin, preserving the artifacts found there. In the 1930’s volunteer crews made adobe blocks on site and completed a museum building using volunteers and leftover materials from other city projects.
