The first Highland Games of the Scottish season season kicked off last weekend at the Gourock Highland Games! This year’s event featured traditional heavy events like tossing the caber and hammer throwing and for the first time, also included female competitors. There was also Highland dancing, pipe bands, arts and crafts stalls featuring local artisans, and a great selection of food and drink. A very special occasion to celebrate the 150th Glenisla Highland Games, held at Forter in Glenisla, Angus, Scotland. Harking back to the event's founding in 1856, patrons, comittee members, competitors, friends and visitors were led through the glen from Meikle Forter Farm to the Games by Dundee City Pipe Band. The games are organised by Glenisla Highland and Friendly Society, under the patronage of the Earl and Countess of Airlie, a role held by their predecessors throughout the event's history
